The Education Payoff

As many of you know, Dr. Gilmore holds a private pilot’s license. Although she is not currently flying, she has several hundred hours in her aviation log book. The recent “Miracle on the Hudson” pilot, Chesley Sullenberger (Sulley), puts all of his prior education in perspective in this Internet quote: “For 42 years, I had made small, regular deposits of education, training and experience. And the experience balance was sufficient that on January 15th, I could make a sudden, large withdrawal.”

Most Creative Young Scientist

Dr. Gilmore has been a judge for the Palm Beach County Regional Science Fair for 30+ years, and the Helen Gilmore Learning Center has presented awards to top young science fair winners since 1990. This year’s Creative Young Scientist cash awards went to Samantha Gilbert, Grade 8, Bak Middle School of the Arts for “Hooked on Sonics” and to Michael Charles, Grade 9, Village Academy for “Solar Board.” Congratulations!
