    *     Most are recognized because they have some or all of the following characteristics: a vocabulary advanced for their age; high energy that sometimes causes behavior or sleep problems; super-sensitivity to their own feelings and those of others; perfectionist tendencies; insatiable curiosity and disdain for routine.

    *     The State of Florida designates gifted children as those with an I.Q. of at least 130. The Federal Government and the Helen Gilmore Learning Center, however, recognize that children with lower I.Q.s may be gifted in one or more of four other arenas: leadership ability; visual and performing arts; creative thinking; and high aptitude in science, social studies, math and/or language.

    *     Gifted children are considered to be intellectually in the top two percent of children their age.
